Before I moved to Texas, I lived in Los Angeles. Areas of the city I regularly frequented are covered in flames, smoke, ash, and other debris. The fires are destroying entire neighborhoods, and it’s heartbreaking seeing all the damage and chaos unfolding and spreading. Susie Sarich, the founder of SusieCakes bakery, has a similar L.A. story—and she’s doing her part to help.
Sarich opened the first SusieCakes in 2006 in the L.A. area. The bakery had so much success that it expanded to Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio. Though Sarich and her husband moved to Dallas in 2016, Southern California still holds a special place in her heart.
SusieCakes has launched some lovely initiatives to help Los Angelenos and first responders. Here’s how the bakery is supporting the community:
- Donating Baked Goods: SusieCakes is donating baked goods each evening to local organizations within three miles of any of their bakery locations. It’s tapping the community for recommendations of organizations to support.
- Free Cupcakes for First Responders: In between bravely fighting fires and helping get people to safety, first responders can stop by any SusieCakes for a free cupcake.
- Special Cupcakes and Cakes: The bakery is crafting “California Wildfires Support” heart cupcakes and “We Love LA” cakes. SusieCakes will donate 100% of net proceeds from both items to the Red Cross, Canine Rescue Club, and Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.
Cupcakes are a good idea just about all the time. When you can support people doing good in a time of need? That’s even better. Stop by any of the SusieCakes locations or order online.
