There was a time in my life when I wasn’t a big fan of wine. I’m glad those days are behind me. Texas is a hotbed for wineries, which appears to be a secret for many non-Texans. Luckily, we’re all about education here, so let’s dive into the new vibe at Texas Hills Vineyard.
Entrepreneurial bros Jim and John Mueller purchased the 29-year-old Texas Hills Vineyard earlier in 2024. Side note: Wouldn’t Entrepreneurial Bros. be a fun variation of a Mario game? The mustachioed plumber has already been things like a doctor and an artist, and obviously, he hosts parties and drives vehicles, but I don’t think he’s ever had to bootstrap his own business from the ground up. There’s an idea for you, Nintendo.
Mario and Co. would do well to look at what the Mueller brothers are up to. Texas Hills Vineyard has been a staple of Johnson City for nearly three decades. Gary and Kathy Gilstrap opened the vineyard all the way back in 1995. The Gilstraps grew the vineyard into a lovely destination, and the new owners plan to keep that classic feel while adding a few upgrades. The Vineyard Club is a pristine example of that.
Sometimes, you’ll join a club, and it’s, like…here’s a free sticker. Or another classic: Here’s access to an exclusive building with everything else being the same price. Exclusivity ain’t a perk for me. I want benefits, and my goodness, does the Vineyard Club deliver on that front.
Texas Hills Vineyard’s Vineyard Club Benefits
- 4, 6, or 12 bottles of wine five times a year—and you can pick your own wines
- 20% discount on Texas Hills wines, merchandise, and events
- $100 per month credit for food and wine
- Invites to member parties, tastings, and events
- Priority access to the Red Room, the new speakeasy with a wonderfully paired menu
- 4 free Red Room wine tastings for 2 to look super cool in front of your friends (they make a great gift)
I’m overwhelmed by all the possibilities here, but that’s a good thing. If you’re bringing the family, you can also check out the new petting zoo for kids. Personally, I think petting animals is a terrific solo activity for adults, too.
